Michael Meacher, Member of the Parliament, will host in the House of Commons the launch of a 12-seminar series on The Emergence of a Commons-based Economy, jointly organized by the Christian Council for Monetary Justice and the School of Commoning, on 8th May, 11:00-13:00. The focus of the opening event in HoC is "Political Economy and the Inclusive Commons."
The launch event’s description and link to register can be found here: http://www.meetup.com/School-of-Commoning-Events/events/61528212/.
The seminars of this programme, using 12 different starting points, will address questions like: What power does the concept of the “commons” have for creating a world that sees wellbeing, social justice and environmental equilibrium central to its values?
The 12 seminars, facilitated by James Quilligan, worldwide renowned commons economist, will explore the commons from various perspectives, reflecting the interest of the organisations convening each event. Their list include the New Economics Foundation, the Finance Innovation Lab, the Institute for Public Policy Research, St. James’s Piccadilly, the Civil Society Forum, and the Westminster Hub.
Each seminar will concentrate on a distinctive question such as.
- How would a commons approach shape the future of finance?
- Can science of complex systems help us manage the local and global commons better?
- How can we adjust our organizational models, systems and ways of working to better steward the commons?
The output of the seminars will provide the material for an online toolkit comprised of a film, an e-book and a knowledge map. It will be part of the resources offered by the Convergence for a Commons-Based Economy to be launched at the closure of the seminar series, 18th May, and financed through a crowdfunding campaign.
