Compostory.org Launches First Digital Learning Center to Educate the World on Organic Waste Management

Educating communities on the benefits of recycling organic waste just became a whole lot easier, thanks to the digital age.

Compostory.org is packaging an unprecedented online learning platform for local governments and the agricultural sector in efforts to bring everyone up to speed on organic waste management practices.

Compost BinSan Francisco, CA, June 10, 2013 : Green White Space Media, a nonprofit social enterprise with operations in Malmö, Sweden and San Francisco, California is thrilled to announce the launch of Compostory.org, the first digital learning center dedicated to organic waste management. A first free online course aims to educate local governments and the agricultural sector on “organic waste management as a driver of local opportunities.”

The course syllabus was created by a world class advisory board to provide a comprehensive introduction on organics recycling based on success stories from around the world. To that end, the course delivers the big picture, enabling participants to build their own organics waste “vision” while emphasizing the variance of many parameters, namely, regulations, economic models and climate.

The urgency of digitized education on organic waste management stems from the unknown opportunities to face our fiscal and waste challenges today. “At a time when the world's farmers are increasingly under pressure from rising input cost and decreasing sale prices, the importance of compost to agriculture and soils in the production of food is a crucial element of increasing importance” says Gerry Gillespie, member of compostory.org’s advisory board.

“We need to create a fully sustainable world that uses circular material flows to maximize resource efficiency, local self-sufficiency and self-reliance,” says Mal Williams, another board member. With local self-sufficiency as the goal, the eight 6 to 12 minute video modules in the first course are a uniquely digestible learning format, instrumental to evaluating solutions that are relevant to participants’ different needs.

“As of today, it’s not easy enough for influencers from around the world to get basic education on organic waste management,” according to Camille Duran, GWS Media’s Executive Director. “The difficulty of the early-stage research is a real barrier to action. This new generation learning platform showcases industry knowledge and great stories, to equip participants with a vision and a thorough understanding of the topic.”

Compostory.org is currently leveraging a global distribution approach. The course is in English but will be available shortly with subtitles in Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese, Italian, French and Portuguese to facilitate access in six continents.
