EarthPeople joins the Rex Cumming Foundation, NRG Energy's eVgo, The Hunt Institute, D Magazine, EARTH-NT and others in support of a business-driven clean energy future.

Dallas, TX, April 2012 : The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture’s Environmental Forum will collaborate with the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) in the Dallas unveiling of RMI’s new initiative “Reinventing Fire,” which aims at “mapping and driving the business-led transition from fossil fuels to efficiency and renewable energy” by 2050. The evening forum will take place on April 23, 2012, at the Dallas Institute of Humanities & Culture to follow the city’s celebration of Earth Day on April 21-22. A keynote speech from RMI’s president and CEO Michael Potts will be followed by a panel discussion with Dallas thought leaders, including Hunter Hunt of the Hunt Institute for Engineering and Humanity at SMU and Brent Brown, Founding Director of buildingcommunityWORKSHOP and Director of Dallas’ CityDesign Studio. Arun Banskota, President of NRG Energy’s Electric Vehicle services, will complete the panel of four.

“We are delighted to partner with the Rocky Mountain Institute in the unveiling of this forward-thinking initiative,” said J. Larry Allums Ph.D., executive director of the Dallas Institute. “When we plan for the future, it is imperative that we think outside the box. The Rocky Mountain Institute provides functional solutions for a greener and more sustainable future.”

“Reinventing Fire” offers actionable solutions for four energy-intensive sectors of the economy: transportation, buildings, industry, and electricity. Built on RMI’s 30 years of research and work in the field, “Reinventing Fire” maps pathways for running a 158 percent bigger United States economy in 2050 but needing no oil, coal, or nuclear energy.

RMI, a Colorado based “think-and-do-tank,” features approximately 80 architects, scientists, engineers, communicators and administrators. Before joining RMI, Potts held numerous leadership positions in various businesses and now frequently speaks to business leaders about transforming the way we source and use energy. With co-founder Amory Lovins as lead writer, RMI has published a book titled “Reinventing Fire: Bold Business Solutions for the New Energy Era,” which unfolds its new initiative and offers a road map for navigating the United States’ economy through the end of the fossil-fuel era.

The program will take place at the Dallas Institute at 2719 Routh Street, Dallas, TX 75201 on April 23, from 6-9 p.m. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 pm and will include a short film before the main program gets underway. Tickets are $30 for Dallas Institute and RMI members, $40 for non-members, and $10 for teachers.
