New York, NY : On March 29, 2012, the EcoPlum online boutique debuts Eco Art Productions, environmentally friendly handbags made from original artwork. The collection includes cosmetics travel clutches, cross body bags, and totes. EcoPlum features Eco Art bags on its homepage in Gia’s Plum Picks and in an original article titled “Fashion as Art: Handbags.”
Eco Art bags are screened from original art paintings onto fabric bags. Each bag goes through an elaborate process of silk screening, between 15-28 screens per image. Original art is screened onto Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) organic certified cotton. GOTS is recognized as the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers worldwide. The eco friendly bags use water based dyes for all the screen prints to ensure there are no chemicals.
Each handbag is personalized with the signature of the artist, screened from the original art onto the bag, and the artist’s biography included on the hangtag. The hangtags and tissue wrapping paper are both made from 100% recycled paper. Eco Art bags have many details, including multiple interior pockets, key fobs, and an organic lavender lining. They are lightweight and maintenance requires only spot cleaning, with cool water and a damp cloth.
