MARIETTA PARTNERS WITH TERRACYCLE

Program Will Provide Recycling Option For Hotel Bath Products

websiteSmallImage Hotel amenities are now more readily recyclable, thanks to a new partnership between manufacturing leader Marietta Corporation and TerraCycle. Until recently, hotels had limited recycling options for the small bottles and soaps, however Marietta is providing a solution for its partners so these products no longer have to go to the landfill. The collected containers will be recycled into new products such as hangers, ice buckets and recycling bins to be used in hotel rooms.

Marietta has a strong commitment to eco-friendly, green initiatives and finding a way to reduce plastics and packaging in landfills has been a priority for the company as part of its Social Responsibility Plan.

“We are committed to collaborating with our partners to work and live in a way that is environmentally responsible,” said Marietta Director Marketing & Communications Vince Panzanella. “Our relationship with TerraCycle fits perfectly with our environmental responsibility program, and we are excited to be able to offer this recycling option to our hotel partners.”

“Marietta was intent on lessening the hospitality industry’s carbon footprint and so we both took a look at how we could work together to make a difference,” says Tom Szaky, TerraCycle CEO. “The fact they are offering this solution to their hotel partners and then having us make new products with the recycled plastic reduces or eliminates the use and production of virgin materials.”

Marietta is in talks with its hotel partners, which happen to be some of the largest in the world, to begin implementing the amenity reclamation program. Interested hotel owners can also contact Marietta or TerraCycle for more information.

TerraCycle, Inc. is an international upcycling and recycling company that takes difficult-to recycle-packaging and turns it into affordable, innovative products. Founded in 2001, TerraCycle (www.terracycle.net) is the world’s leader in the collection and reuse of non-recyclable post-consumer waste. TerraCycle works with over 30 major brands in the U.S. (and in a growing number of other countries) to collect used packaging and products (chip bags, candy wrappers, juice pouches, pens, toothbrushes, etc.) that would otherwise be destined for landfills. It repurposes that waste into new innovative materials and products that are available online and through major retailers. The waste is collected through TerraCycle’s Brigade programs, which are free fundraisers that pay schools and non-profits for every piece of waste they collect and return.
