Now, with the warmer and dryer – well, we can hope – weather on its way it is time to give the dryer a rest and let Mother Nature do the work by using the line or an outdoor clothes dryer.
April 19 was National Hanging Out Day in the United States and I hope that many have “honored” this day by doing the drying of the laundry outside.
The funny thing, though, is that while the US has a National Hanging Out Day in many areas it is not permitted to hang out the laundry on the line or even on a clothes dryer even in the back yard.
This is an equally stupid ordinance as is the fact that rainwater harvesting is illegal in many states and areas.
There's nothing like the scent of air-dried laundry, particularly when you consider how much energy you're saving. Plus, the sun naturally disinfects the clothes.
Even if you don't have the line or the nice weather, you can hang-dry your clothes on a number of ingenious racks for indoor use. The point is to hang out and save energy.
