Energy Saving, Sustainable Homes of the Future to be built at the Ideal Home Show 2011

BRITAIN’S best loved consumer home event, the Ideal Home Show sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements, is set to build three full scale model homes within Earls Court London, showcasing a variety of sustainable building technologies, green home improvements and new concepts in self-build to be on show to the public for 17 days at this year’s event, running from the 11th – 27th March 2011, at London’s Earls Court.

The Ideal Show Homes will take centre stage at this year’s event showcasing a trio of full scale model homes that will offer a perfect fusion of renovated and new build property concepts.

These three model homes will offer a variety of solutions to suit every homeowner, from a series of easy home improvement ideas to improve existing homes, to an alternative and greener Georgian styled family home, as well as a new concept in affordable and sustainable new build homes. The homes have been brought together as part of the show’s initiative to help consumers understand how to make their homes more energy efficient, and build for a sustainable future.

The first of the three properties will be the ultimate, ‘Ideal Home Refit’ sponsored by B&Q. A real-life home transformation based on one of the UK’s most iconic British Homes; No1 Coronation Street, this property will form part of a before and after model, that will showcase how, with a little imagination and flair, a traditional two-up two-down semi can be transformed into a modern, contemporary and cost efficient home.

Re-designed by Architect George Clarke, the Ideal Refit will offer inspiration to consumers on how to improve your home and utilise your existing space more efficiently, as well as showcasing a series of practical solutions to help make your home more energy efficient on any budget, helping save money on domestic energy bills.

The second property is the ‘The Prince’s House’. Supported by The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment, this traditional Georgian family home showcases the very best traditional build and eco principles, creating an alternative low carbon home for volume house builders.

Based on a research showing a clear preference by consumers for traditionally designed homes, the house provides low-carbon compliance in a vernacular idiom, using natural materials and traditional building methods, offering a more liveable home than many of the alternative airtight, complex and high-tech solutions currently being trialed in the UK and internationally.

The third house in our village is the ‘Trend’ range of Log kit and Log Panel homes by Jorntrahus and offers a modern day alternative to Contemporary Living with our ‘Open plan Living House sponsored by Dulux’. Our ‘Trend series’ Log kits for supply only start at 50k for a two bedroom up to 125k for a four bedroom. This is an affordable solution to self-building and comes complete ready for self assembly excluding fixtures and fittings.

Trend panel homes start at 340k complete with fixtures, fittings, delivery and erection for the non self builders amongst us and built on site in a fraction of the time.

Organisers of the Ideal Home Show commented: “We are actively encouraging homeowners and potential purchasers to come and visit this year’s show homes, to see these fabulous build concepts in situ. These are some of our most spectacular properties to date, and will give visitors the chance to see and experience a variety of different styles, layouts and technologies, for the first time ever, right here at the show."

Set against the backdrop of the Ideal Show Homes model street, each house will offer a spectacular experience for visitors through a detailed tour of its layout, use of space, interior décor and design, whilst offering an education in the very latest in green technologies, building products and materials used to get a feel for what they can do in their own homes.

There will also be the addition of a special sustainable home from Eco Floating Homes. A brand new sustainable floating Home, designed with the environment in mind and made from natural sustainable Timber. This highly efficient, smart Eco alternative to a traditional home offers a unique smart design that maximises the efficiency of space. This property does not need all of the usual infrastructure and onsite works, and has minimal impact on the local environment.

In addition, this year’s show will also see the launch of a unique holiday property with the new Beach House Leisure home by Tingene. This is one of the most exciting new leisure homes to be exhibited in the last decade and offers a new concept in design for holiday homes in the UK. With a spacious open plan living area two bedrooms and two luxury bathrooms, with the very latest in fittings and furniture as standard the Beach House will be a must see at this year’s event.

The three Ideal Show Homes will be opened officially to visitors on Friday 11th March, at 10am, at London Earls Court, and will remain open every day throughout the 17-day event.
