Online garden equipment retailer, GardenToolbox, has reported impressive sales of water butts as customers begin to prepare for the summer months and the likely hose pipe ban that comes with it. http://www.gardentoolbox.co.uk
Water butts are a traditional feature of many gardens and have increased in popularity as people become more aware of the environment and the effect of using too much water. Traditionally they are large cylindrical containers with a lid – to stop leaves and animals falling in – and a tap to empty the butt in order to water the garden. The use of water butts is often promoted by local councils and water companies, conscious of water usage.
Lee Taylor, General Manager at Garden Toolbox, said: “We recognised this as a shopping pattern but we didn’t expect it to this extent. We know people, especially those with an active interest in gardening, start thinking about the upcoming spring and summer months at this time of year.”
With rain showers likely throughout March and April and even into May, gardeners are buying up water butts in order to save up water for the dryer summer months.
Lee continued: “People are well aware of April showers but – as is always the way in Britain – the showers last a lot longer than that. Our customers don’t want to miss out on the inevitable March rain which is so valuable to gardeners. By storing up rain water they know they’ll have enough when we have a warmer, dry patch throughout the summer, possibly as late as August and September. Our range of water butts has something for everyone, whether it’s an affordable slimline water butt or a much larger scale replica ceramic water butt, people can find what they’re looking for and be confident about the quality.”
Garden Toolbox has got in more stock of water butts and the company is confident it’ll be able to meet demand as the days get warmer and longer, reminding people to start thinking about their summer gardening.
With brands such as Sankey selling extraordinarily well, Garden Toolbox is looking forward to consistently good sales across all its water butt ranges. The Sankey range includes a variety of water butts such as traditional green plastic constructions in a number of sizes, as well as stackable and slimline models for smaller gardens, and replica ceramic designs for something a bit different.
With the Garden Toolbox water butt range selling so well, the e-commerce company is looking forward to a successful end to the first quarter and good sales across the summer months as the garden watering equipment market takes off again.
GardenToolbox operates under the Plumbworld Network name which boasts an astonishing 50+ websites selling everything from Paslode nail gun and bathroom suites to Franke sinks and decorating tools. The business now employs more than 50 people in its purpose built warehouse and offices and has a total turnover in excess of £18 million and is growing at more than 20% year on year.
