New 'Virtual Skip' App Helps People Re-Use and Recycle Unwanted Goods

With the launch of the new vSkips app, the developers hope that they can simplify and speed up the process of “reuse and recycle” for consumers, helping to dramatically cut the amount of items needlessly sent to landfill in the UK every year.

Derby, Derbyshire, UK, February 2012 : With piles of unwanted Christmas gifts still lurking in cupboards across the UK and in danger of pushing the “to skip/to charity” collection in households to breaking point, help could be at hand with the launch of the free and long-awaited Vskips app.

With the vSkips app, we have simplified the process of donating unwanted items to a good home so people can start 2012 more generously and greener than ever!

Created by British company The Vyouz Network, the website vSkips.co.uk has already attracted over 36,000 registered members since it its conception. Now, with the launch of the new vSkips app, the developers hope that they can simplify and speed up the process of “reuse and recycle” for consumers, helping to dramatically cut the amount of items needlessly sent to landfill in the UK every year.

The new app has been a long time in the making but it is time well spent, according to Len Willis, managing director of The Vyouz Network: “If we’re honest, the UK probably wasted millions of pounds on unwanted Christmas presents in 2011 and many of them will end up being re-sold online, which does at least adding a welcome element of “reuse” to the equation. However, of the hundreds of thousands of unwanted gifts received, the vast majority will still just gather dust in a cupboard and begin the slow but predictable journey to landfill. With the vSkips app, we have simplified the process of donating unwanted items to a good home so people can start 2012 more generously and greener than ever!

“The interest in the vSkips website since its initial launch has been fantastic but we are committed to making everything we do as intuitive and as simple as possible so an app was the next logical but obviously a time and resource consuming step. Now that we have it, we are confident that we can grow our number of users significantly and the effect of that will be a significant reduction in the amount of items quite needlessly sent to landfill every year.

“There has already been some great work done in this arena by the likes of Freecycle and we have recognised that by ensuring that all Freecycle members and similar groups in the UK like Freegle can use the more advanced platform that vSkips has to offer."

The vSkips app is now available on Iphone, with Android coming later this month (February). http://www.vyouz.com/apps/vskips
