Friday, November 25, 2011 is By Nothing Day and, maybe, we should just do that; by nothing instead of all running to the stores and buy, buy, buy. OK, in reality this is the day that is often referred to as “Black Friday”, being the day after Thanksgiving, which always falls on the last Thursday in November (Thanksgiving that is), and the day, “Black Friday”, much like nowadays Boxing Day in the UK, where people seem to head out en masse to the malls and out of town shopping centers to indulge serious consumer madness.
For the sake of sanity and the Planet let's change that and let us truly make the “Black Friday” into a permanent “Buy Nothing Day” and not just this year.
For those of us in the UK the Buy Nothing Day falls this year on Saturday, November 26, and we should follow the same advice as given for our American cousins and that is to not go out and buy, buy, buy, but to stay at home and wave shopping bye, bye for the day.
Let's go and do it.
