Rezidor, a rapidly-expanding worldwide hotel company, has announced a partnership with World Clean Up 2012, a global campaign which aims to clean up illegal stray garbage in 100 countries and raise people's environmental awareness worldwide. Together with Carlson, majority shareholder and strategic partner of Rezidor, the company will join and support World Clean Up activities throughout the year and celebrate the end of the campaign 2012 in September during Rezidor's traditional "Responsible Business Action Month." Rezidor and Carlson are the only global partners of World Clean Up 2012 within the hospitality industry.
Inge Huijbrechts, Director Responsible Business, said: "Doing business in a responsible and sustainable way is of highest importance to our group. Rezidor's ambitious and company-wide Responsible Business programme dates back to 1989 and has been developed further ever since. World Clean Up is a fantastic initiative which is also supported by many national governments and European Parliament members, and will complement our Responsible Business activities 2012."
Rezidor kicks off the global partnership with World Clean Up during the European Week for Waste Reduction. The Rezidor Hotel Group has hotels across the globe, from hotel Oslo to hotel Riyadh and it will utilise its worldwide presence to spread the message of this campaign. Eighteen Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson hotels will launch clean-up activities in 11 countries. The official World Clean Up 2012 campaign will start with an international conference at the Radisson Blu Olympia Hotel in Tallinn, Estonia. From then on, clean up actions will be organized in 66 countries across the globe.
World Clean Up started as a national clean-up day in Estonia in 2008 with 50,000 people joining in the cause. The campaign is fully organized and carried out by volunteers - people mobilizing others to share ideas, knowledge and experience, to create networks and to make the world a cleaner place.
"This is not just about the nature -lovers, it's about everyone waking up to the reality that garbage is the largest mistreated resource in the world," said Rainer Nolvak, one of the action initiators.
The Rezidor Hotel Group is one of the fastest growing hotel companies in the world. The group features a portfolio of more than 400 hotels in operation and under development with 88,800 rooms in over 60 countries. Its portfolio includes: hotels in Berlin, hotels in Stockholm and hotel Bratislava.
