EUROPEAN LEADERS MEET IN LONDON TO PROMOTE RENEWABLE FUTURE

Key players in renewable energy are meeting in London this month at the European Future Energy Forum. Held in association with Abu Dhabi’s Masdar Initiative, the forum will gather Europe’s leading clean energy ministers, manufacturers and financiers for three days of talks and business dealings.

Chris Huhne, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, UK, who is speaking at the Forum on October 19, will be joined by ministers from leading European clean energy states Denmark, Spain and Portugal. Lykke Friis, Minister for Climate and Energy, Denmark, Pedro Marin, Secretary of State for Energy, Spain, Carlos Zorrinho, Vice Minister for Energy and Innovation, Portugal. They will all be giving keynote addresses on Oct 19, 2010 and joining in a fast-paced panel discussion with senior industry representatives and NGOs.

Pedro Marin, Secretary of State for Energy, Spain says: “By being a leader in the field, Spain has been able to build up a strong industrial cluster supplying the energy sector. By being a pioneer in the promotion of renewable energies, Spain has learnt that regulation and support schemes have to be stable and visible but also flexible. This way, technological innovation and gains in efficiency can be rapidly caught and transferred to the consumers.”

The panel debate, chaired by CNBC’s Steve Sedgwick, will be a fast-paced and exciting debate, looking at key regulatory areas and commercialising clean energy. Gilles Vermot-Desroches, Senior Vice President of Sustainable Development, Schneider Electric, Thomas Dalsgaard, Vice President, DONG Energy, Matthew Chinn, Managing Director Energy Sector, UK and North West Europe, Siemens are amongst those representing the highest level of European energy executives.

Kumi Naidoo, Executive Director, Greenpeace International and David Nussbaum, CEO, WWF-UK, critical public opinion influencers, will also be joining the debate and expected to give strong opinions on the status of renewable energy and bridging the gap between the developed and developing world.

Gilles Vermot-Desroches, Senior Vice President of Sustainable Development, Schneider Electric commented: “Today, energy is at the very heart of Sustainable Development issues. 1.5 billion people throughout the world do not have access to energy and legitimately aspire to having the same equipment and services as the inhabitants of developed areas.”

EFEF forms part of the Future Energy series of events that includes World Future Energy Summit held annually in Abu Dhabi. Developed by Masdar to drive collaboration and dialogue in Europe around renewable energy policy, investment and innovation, EFEF was launched with great success in 2009 at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Spain and saw 3,638 attendees from 43 countries attend.

“Continuing in the successful footsteps of its parent event the World Future Energy Summit, held annually in Abu Dhabi, EFEF 2010 provides the perfect platform for the European renewable energy industry to share knowledge and technology, advance solutions, invite investors and explore new partnerships” said Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO, Masdar.

Alongside the conference, EFEF 2010 will feature a prestigious exhibition that will accommodate thousands of visitors and offer up to 200 of the region’s leading renewable energy suppliers, space to demonstrate solutions and business opportunities for the environmental technology market.

The exhibition hall is also the meeting place for round table sessions, networking lunches, refreshment breaks and private business meetings. There are limited stands still available. See www.EuropeanFutureEnergyForum.com for further details.
