Can't Afford to Fill up on Gas? Plan a Route with BikeWalkKC and Learn a Cheap, Easy Way to Get Around Town

BikeWalkKC has a free class Jan 10, 2012 to make the ride the best it can be. Plan Your Route can help chart a course to school, work, home and more. Plan the best cycling route that goes around hills, uses bike friendly streets and learn the best routes to take a bike on the bus. The free class is located at theTony Aguirre Community Center, 2050 West Pennway Terrace in Kansas City, MO. Map a commute with BikeWalkKC and learn a cheap easy way to get around town and go green.

Kansas City, MO : Plan Your Route will take the commuter beyond the paper map and make the bike trip the best it can be. BikeWalkKC will help chart a course to and from anywhere in the metro area and with any combination of transportation modes. This class will teach the participant to use bike maps, bus and bike options and even use park and ride areas.

(Public transportation isn't great in the Kansas City region, but combine it with a bike and it is a quick and healthy option to get around town. This class will help avoid the hills and make it easier and faster to get around.)

Want to bike the whole way? BikeWalkKC will have bike maps and will help avoid the rolling Kansas City hills. Want to bus part of the trip? BikeWalkKC will look at the routes that come within biking distance of your origin and destination -- this class will teach the participant to use various form of transportation. BikeWalkKC staff will discuss park and bike options for those who want to drive part of the trip and bike the rest.

Participants will leave the class with maps of their preferred routes and a better understanding how to use public transportation in the Kansas City region. All participants in the class will be entered into BikeWalkKC's Car Free Challenge where participants may log their miles using green transportation, see their carbon and calorie savings and compete for prizes. Participants who attend any of January's BikeWalkKC workshops will be entered to win a waterproof pannier bag valued at $60!

-Google Bus Trip Planner

Participants will leave the class with hard copies of maps with personalized routes!

This free class runs January 10, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the class is located at the Tony Aguirre Community Center, 2050 West Pennway Terrace in Kansas City, MO.

In addition to mapping your ride you can further enhance your safety by taking one of BikeWalkKCs free classes. This year BikeWalkKC has a selection of free classes to help keep you safe while you ride. BikeWalkKC teaches classes on Staying Visible, Commuting by Bike, Confident City Cycling, Basic Bike Maintenance and you now have the opportunity to request a class to come to your work or community center.
