Sinti & Roma not part of the minority article in the constitution
By Michael Smith (Veshengro)
The German State of Schleswig-Holstein has decreed that Sinti & Roma will not be included in the minority protection clause of the constitution, unlike the Danes and Friesians.
According to the fathers of the country including Sinti & Roma would just be a hindrance and would not be fit and proper. While, as said, the Danes and the Friesians have been accorded minority protection status in the constitution of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein Sinti & Roma have, thus far been excluded and, as it would appear, unless we have a miracle happening, will remain excluded.
Reason given, further, by the leaders of the CDU, who govern with the FDP, for not granting Sinti & Roma minority status under the Schleswig-Holstein constitution is that the constitution is only for state specific issues and as Sinti & Roma also happen to be present in other states of the Federal Republic it is right to exclude them from the constitutional protection of the state.
No one, I am sure, can follow the argument of the leader of the CDU in the state legislature but, nevertheless, they stand firm on their position that while provisions can and must be made for the other two minorities, Gypsies don't deserve it.
Not much has changed in Germany and things are getting bad again, I would suggest.
