CIWEM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HONOURED WITH OBE

Nick Reeves, Executive Director of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management has been awarded an OBE for services to the environment.

Nick Reeves has been Executive Director of CIWEM since 1998 and is a Chartered Environmentalist. His dedication to the environment led him to co-found the Green Flag Awards Scheme, the Government funded environmental awards scheme and has recently been appointed a Trustee of the Optimum Population Trust. He is also a Science Council Board Member; Board Member of the Society for the Environment; Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts; Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society; and a Liveryman and Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators.

On hearing the news, Nick said: “None of this has quite sunk in yet. I'm amazed, really. It's a tribute to all the team at CIWEM I have been very lucky to have worked with and been supported by so many talented and committed people. The OBE is for them too!”

In one of the most diverse honours lists yet, awards have gone to extraordinary people who are making a real contribution to their community. A large number of people recognised include those making a difference through volunteering, fundraising, social action and philanthropy.

CIWEM would like to congratulate Sir Stephen Bubb, Chief Executive Officer of ACEVO, who received a Knighthood for services to the voluntary sector; Keith Clarke, CEO of WS Atkins, who received a CBE for services to Engineering & the Construction Industry; Kenneth Harvey, Chairman of the Pennon Group, who received a CBE for services to utility industries; Peter Head, a Director of Arup, who received a CBE for services to the Environment; and Stephen Hale, former Director of the Green Alliance, who received an OBE for services to the environment.

Chair of CIWEM’s Trustee Board, Jim Oatridge said: “I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to CIWEM’s Executive Director Nick Reeves on his award of the OBE in the 2011 New Years Honours List. It is richly deserved and a clear recognition of Nick’s outstanding work in raising the profile and esteem in which CIWEM is now held.”
