The Lakeland Grain Mill is a manual grain mill which attaches easily to tables or kitchen- and other counter tops.

With fine and coarse grinding settings which are adjusted with the screw that also attached the grinding handle changing from one grade to the next is very simple but effective. You can basically set any grade of grinding, from fine to coarse, effortlessly.

This grain mill came about as a big request from Lakeland customers, and it’s no wonder – our new version of the traditional Grain Mill is the easy way to grind wheat, corn, rice, oats, barley, and non-oily seeds, not to mention spices, so you can make your own flour for baking completely-natural, wholegrain breads, and at a fraction of shop-bought prices.

Until recently good hand-operated grain mills for home use were only available in the and from the United States.

People in Britain who wanted to have a small grain mill for home use to make bread, etc. entirely from scratch had to find a supplier in the USA willing to sell and ship abroad – cost of mill and shipping plus customs clearance might be rather costly – or have a friend procure it for them in the US or they had to buy one on a trip to the States. Now, however, such a mill can be had for less than 50 GBP from Lakeland in the beautiful Lake District of England.

The main body of the mill appears to be cast from aluminium and, from the appearance it could probably be recycled aluminium to boot – and the cutting gears are stainless steel.

While the price around 50 GBP is not cheap it is a lot cheaper by far to many others that I have seen and especially compared with the likes of the US's favorite, the Country Grain Mill, which weighs in at around 300 GBP. And while the latter is bigger than the Lakeland Grain Mill the Lakeland one is much easier to store and that is an asset in smaller kitchens.

As said, the Lakeland Grain Mill clamps easily onto a table or counter and fits into a drawer for storage. It is an absolute must for anyone who bakes bread, either by hand or machine, and especially for those that wish to make their bread entirely from scratch.

I have used the mill in the test for the grinding of rice into rice powder and was amazed how well it did that.

Another great product, and one that many people will have waited for, from Lakeland.
