Summer Sundae reveller wins eco-holiday

A festival-goer who pedalled her way to Leicester’s Summer Sundae Weekender has been rewarded with a four-day cycling holiday along Hadrian’s Wall.

Anja Petterson was among scores of revellers who cycled to the three-day event to help make it one of the UK’s greenest festivals.

Everyone who arrived by bike could enter the Saddle Skedaddle holiday competition, run in conjunction with sustainable transport charity Sustrans, Ride Leicester and Summer Sundae Weekender.

Anja, aged 37, from Narborough Road, Leicester, was selected from the entrants at random and will now attempt the 174-mile Hadrian’s Cycleway – part of Sustrans’ National Cycle Network – on a four-day, three-night, self-guided tour.

Anja, who will embark on the trip with a friend of her choice, said: “Cycling was the easiest way for me to get to the festival because it saved the hassle of parking or catching two buses to get across town.

“I cycle everyday to work and to see friends because it’s convenient, helps me to keep fit and is more environmentally friendly. But I’ve never been on a cycling holiday before so this gives me the incentive to step up my fitness levels and make the most of the holiday. I think the scenery will be absolutely beautiful and I’m really looking forward to investigating what’s in store.”
