Sixty of the top doers and entrepreneurs in technology, arts, and media will meet in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for the second Summit Series on November 20, 2008. Some of the participants will include: Sean Mills, President of The Onion; Jud Bowman, CEO of PocketGear; Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos; Shawn Fanning, Co-Founder of Napster; Tim Ferris, Author of The 4-Hour Work Week ; Scott Harrison, Founder and President of charity: water; and Blake Mycoskie, Founder and CEO of TOMS Shoes.
Twice a year, The Summit Series brings together a group of young talented pioneers in their fields to kick off their shoes, relax and share ideas and experiences. The Summit's goal is to create a community of the nation’s top young entrepreneurial minds.
“The Summit is a forum where these young guns can share views, experiences and bounce ideas off of each other in ways that are productive and supportive,” says Elliott Bisnow, Founder of The Summit Series. “We wanted to create an environment unlike any other conference. The Summit structure allows for a free flow of ideas, exchange of business experiences, and practices in its design.”
“Some of us didn't go to college and we don’t have the hierarchical corporate structure that lends itself to mentoring and counsel,” says Ben Kaufman, Founder of kluster. “This is what The Summit is all about. We talk about the challenges, pitfalls, obstacles and successes that face young entrepreneurs. It’s constructive and, well, kick-ass.”
During three days in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, these young entrepreneurs will have a much-needed break to recharge their burnt out batteries. “This exclusive trip is brought to life with the help of our sponsors: Staples, Goldman Sachs, TED Conference, Polaris Ventures, Jones Lang LaSalle, 27 Threats , Cooley Godward Kronish, and Charles River Ventures.
“It’s not just about business,” says Ryan Begelman, Director of The Summit Series, “and it’s not just about relaxing either. Participants contribute to various community service projects. This year’s projects will include a charity: water and a shoe drop for TOMS Shoes. In just a couple of days, attendees share in these experiences and walk away with a strong network of contacts and a new-found support system amongst their peers.”
The Summit Series was founded in 2007 to build a community of the most successful young entrepreneurs in the United States. Invited members, all under the age of 35, are leaders and pioneers in their industries with annual revenues ranging from $5 million to over $100 million. The Series brings its members together for a few days in various locations to network, share ideas and do charity work with the help of its corporate sponsors. The main goal is to promote further professional and personal growth. For more information, visit the website at www.thesummitseries.com.
